Obviously the former is infinitely better for the conservation of native plants and animals. From an economic point of view, it is a `no-brainer' that harvesting animals from their natural environment is infinitely more cost-effective than raising them from birth fatty knees to be slaughtered later. Australia is lucky to be in a position to embrace this sustainable natural resource with minimal land damage, and we should make the most of it, not talk it down. Lastly, any logically thinking animal liberationist would realize that overall animal-suffering is drastically reduced by harvesting animals from the wild (that fatty knees have fatty knees hitherto enjoyed freedom), instead of raising animals in captivity often for years in restrictive conditions, to meet the needs of the meat market. I've been traveling to the Vic market for roo meat for years, and have welcomed it's recent emergence in mainstream outlets. For environmental and animal liberationist reasons, I urge other Australian meat eaters to incorporate roo meat into there diet occasionally, in place of a farmed animal.
