The trendy Eastern Suburbs didn't really have the time of day for the working man's game and throughout most of links this time, the Roosters would be lucky to get maybe five thousand people to a home game. The Roosters, to put it simply - DO NOT HAVE A TRADITIONAL FAN BASE. I remember links being on Bondi Plaza for the big fan meet prior to the 2002 Grand Final (don't ask me what the links fuck I was doing there cos even I don't remember) and well - there were maybe 200 hundred fans in attendance. If it were Parra, St George or Manly - you would have had to block off the local streets. Manly, like their hated AFL cousins Collingwood, STILL have a massive supporter base.Where the Roosters have been successful is in securing shitloads of funding from Packer/Politis and pumping that into a very good talent identification program. Still, it's not like they're spotting talent within their local area.
