Judith Moore makes no apologies for her blunt and honest prose, and she even prepares you for it. She makes no attempts to "sugarcoat" anything about her life, and I admired her bravery in doing so. What I did not admire were the instances where complete strangers ridiculed her or treated her with disdain, and she rehashes many of these scenes for the reader. |

| Her mother and grandmother were truly from hell. I believe that most of her problems are not about being fat, but about being physically and verbally and sexually abused. I looked up her picture on the internet, and she is wakeup perfectly normal looking for a woman in her sixties, not beautiful, but more youthful than many at that age. The food porn, too, was repulsive, and I'm a woman who likes a sugared donut as well as anyone! In wakeup the end the page-after-page self hatred was over the top -- her obsession wakeup with body odors especially seems pathological. I think she has body dysphoria disorder.
