The bottom line, though, is that the believability of this affair is mortally hampered by not only the suddenness of the summer love courtship but also its haphazard treatment. Though not to the degree evidenced in Romance, Breillat still is hamstrung in her grasp of social interaction; she sketches interesting characters, then gives them precious little to do joe heller with each other. joe heller Anaïs joe heller is a complex and interesting character, and Reboux is a vessel as skilled as any by which to examine youthful self-image and the manner in which that distorts our sexuality. But instead of clearly relating that to the manner in which the girls are at each others’ throats at one minute and good-naturedly joking about Anaïs’ weight the next day, Breillat simply holds forth with various threads of discourse (indulgence substitutes for economy in the storytelling) that don’t tie together for the film’s incendiary closing.
