This is a different kind spinsters ink books of girls' movie, and certainly spinsters ink books not a pretty one, especially its horrific head-scratcher of an ending. Elena (Roxane Mesquida) and younger sister Anais (Anais Reboux) are on holiday in a French coastal village with their workaholic father and inattentive mother. Left to their own devices, the girls spend all their time spinsters ink books together, usually talking about sex. Elena, something of a tart, has plenty of beaux but stops just short of intercourse. The younger sister has an imagination as active as her sister's romantic life. She's developed her own theories about romance, dismissing her sister's notions about "saving" herself. The younger one wants to be "broken in" when she meets her own true love. Her family sees her as a chubby kid, but she doesn't see herself that way. She insists that her skirts be hemmed several inches above the knee, and in one unsettling -- and perhaps unnecessary -- scene, she studies her underdeveloped breasts in the mirror, disappointed that the external hasn't caught up to her image of herself.
