"'Fat psychology Girl' was the 'buzz' film at Berlin," commented Code Red partner Noah Cowan. "But in the chilling climate of conservatism in this country, a bigger company could never touch this film which deals so frankly and clearly with teenage sexuality. While this psychology is a sad state of affairs for the nation, it is a marvelous opportunity for Code Red and Cowboy." Reporting from the Berlinale, Eddie Cockrell wrote: "'What is your justification to bore me for 90 minutes when you have nothing to say?' was the first question fielded by Breillat, who exhibited a good psychology bit of her lead character's self-confidence. She answered, 'I don't have to make characters that you likeŠit's the forbidden, and we all want what is forbidden. It's a fear, it's a passion and that's why we really need to go to the very end. I don't think I have got that far yet.' Another defiantly individualist step in that direction, 'Fat Girl' both provokes and haunts." Along with "Fat Girl," Code Red and Cowboy now have a solid, eclectic group of upcoming art-house releases: Kiyoshi Kurosawa's "Cure"; James Bogle's "In the Winter Dark," and Tony Gatlif's "Vengo."
