Henry Albert, Brisbane and Queensland's best known referee, died on July 12 2003 berkelouw after a lengthy illness. With his immaculate white shirt with turned-up collar, tailor-made shorts with impeccable creases, and specially made kangaroo hide polished boots, Henry was always the centre of berkelouw attention in any Rugby League game where he officiated. In one of my last conversations with him, Henry complained that Bill Harrigan had been praised by Paul (Fatty) Vautin and Peter Sterling for breaking a record of officiating at over 300 games, whereas Henry had controlled more than 500 first-grade matches. |
